Mass Flow Computers

Mass flow computers are integral to measuring diverse applications across numerous industries. They serve two primary markets: fiscal mass flow for approved custody transfer applications, enabling billing and invoicing of fluids and energy commodities, and secondary measurement for internal auditing to enhance process efficiency and reduce carbon footprint.
Traditionally and even today, mass flowmetering relies on differential pressure devices like orifice plates, venturi, and pitot tubes as primary elements, along with DP transmitters outputting volumetric signals and complemented by pressure and temperature transmitters. Subsequently, a mass flow computer utilizes standardized equations such as API, SGERG, ASTM, AGA to calculate mass flow, depending on the fluid being measured. These fluids can encompass gases, steam, as well as liquids like petroleum, biofuels, water, and energy transfer liquids in heat metering systems.
The adaptability of mass flow computers across various industries highlights their significance in optimizing processes, ensuring accuracy in measurement, and facilitating regulatory compliance.

The 515 MP01 application is designed for measuring the mass flow of a product. The instrument utilizes the frequency output from a mass flowmeter and incorporates a "master meter" input along with Meter Factor for in-line proving. The master meter input enables a real-time proving run against the line meter without disrupting the flow. It calculates and allows the input of a recommended Meter Factor to ensure precise measurement under current flow conditions or to adjust for any minor deterioration in the line meter. Importantly, the flow computer independently maintains the Line flowrate and total, separate from the proving totals. Proving runs can be managed either through RTU Modbus communications or via rear panel logic inputs.
