Protex Loop Powered Meters

Precision Digital manufactures a wide variety of explosion-proof indicators and controllers which can be powered via either loop or line power and carry all the major approvals, such as CSA, ATEX and IECEx. In addition, a select group of explosion proof products are now UL Listed as Explosion-Proof / Dust Ignition-Proof / Flame-Proof. These instruments will accept a wide range of inputs, such as 4-20 mA, strain gauge, pulse, thermocouple, RTD and Modbus and can be equipped with relays, 4-20 mA outputs and serial re-transmission. They all feature displays that can be easily read in various lighting conditions, from wide angles, and from considerable distances.

ProtEX-MAX Explosion-Proof Meters and Indicators

The ProtEX+ loop-powered explosion-proof & intrinsically safe meters can be installed virtually anywhere to provide convenient and informative display of any 4-20 mA signal. They can operate down to -40°C and be installed in areas that get as cold as -55°C, however the display will cease functioning. One of the most convenient features is the dual-line display, typically used to display the process variable on the 5-character alphanumeric top display and the units of measure or tag on the 8-character alphanumeric bottom display. Feet and inches models display level in feet and inches on the top display while the 8-digit alphanumeric bottom line may be used to display a tag or custom message. Further enhancing the display on these instruments is a 20-segment bargraph.
The ProtEX+ carries all major approvals including:
  • UL Listed as Explosion-Proof / Dust Ignition-Proof / Flame-Proof
  • CSA Certified as Explosion-Proof / Dust Ignition-Proof / Flame-Proof
  • ATEX and IECEx Certified as Intrinsically Safe / Explosion-Proof
Four CapTouch through-glass buttons are available to operate the instrument without removing the cover. Free, PC-based, MeterView XL software that connects to the meter via a micro USB cable is available for programming and setup of the meters.
All models come equipped with two open collector outputs and a digital input. There are also models available with two solid-state relays and isolated 4-20 mA analog output options.

The ProtEX+ loop-powered explosion-proof & intrinsically safe flow rate/totalizers can be installed virtually anywhere to provide convenient and informative display of any 4-20 mA signal. They can operate down to -40°C and be installed in areas that get as cold as -55°C, however the display will cease functioning. One of the most convenient features is the dual-line display, typically used to display the flow rate on the 5-character alphanumeric top display and flow total, flow grand total, or tag on the 8-character alphanumeric bottom display. The top display uses 12-segment, and the bottom display uses 14-segment alphanumeric characters for clear indication of tags, units, or alarm messages. Further enhancing the display on these instruments is a 20-segment bargraph.

The PD6800 is a rugged, full-featured, explosion-proof loop-powered meter ideal for demanding applications in hazardous areas or in the harshest environmental conditions.

The product is CSA Certified as Explosion-Proof / Dust Ignition-Proof / Flame-Proof and ATEX & IECEx Certified as Explosion-Proof. It is available in either an aluminum or stainless steel enclosure with ¾" or M20 conduit connections. It will operate down to -40°C and is approved for installation in areas where the temperature gets as cold as -55°C, however the display will cease functioning.

The meter derives all of its power from the 4-20 mA loop, thus making installation a simple matter of wiring the instrument into the existing loop. No external power is required. Programming is performed using the four SafeTouch through-glass buttons and can be done without removing the cover. In addition, the meter can be scaled with or without a calibration signal.

The backlit LCD display consists of two lines with the addition of a 20-segment bargraph on the PD6800-0L1. The main line of the display has five full digits and is used to display the process variable. The secondary line has seven alphanumeric characters and is used for a tag, engineering units, or displaying the input in different units (for the PD6800-0L1). For instance, on the PD6800-0L1, the top line could display the height of the tank in feet and the bottom line could display the same input in gallons. The bargraph provides a quick visual of the current state of the process variable. The backlight makes the display visible under any lighting condition and can be powered from either the 4-20 mA loop or from a separate DC power supply.
