CLIF MOCK True Cut CD Series Actuator and Sample Controller

The CLIF MOCK True Cut CD series actuator and sample controller are pivotal in regulating the sampling frequency of C-Series sample probes. These controllers boast an internal motor that enables the rotation of the sample probe during sample collection, allowing the CLIF MOCK True Cut C-Series sample probe to extract a sample with each 180-degree rotation. While the controller can be obtained independently, its full functionality shines when paired with a CLIF MOCK True Cut C-Series sample probe. Installation is a breeze, as the controllers can be effortlessly attached to the sample probe within the pipeline without the need for additional mounting hardware.

The CLIF MOCK True Cut CD series actuator and sample controllers offer four distinct configurations for managing the sampling process through pulse counts, timing, or pacing from a computer or PLC. Moreover, one configuration is designed to trigger an alarm in the event of power loss, input signal loss, or motor failure.

There are 3 types of CLIF MOCK True Cut CD series

The CD20-230VAC Control and Drive Assembly is engineered specifically for use with the True-Cut C- Series sample probe. It comprises the following components:

a motor speed control that provides both pulse input (flow-proportional) and repeat (time- proportional) control of the sample probe. When a “start” pulse is received at the CD20 control card input, the probe is driven 180 degrees to capture and discharge a single 1.5-ml isokinetic sample. On a horizontal line, the probe is stopped in the closed position, while on a vertical line, the probe is stopped in the open position.
a DC gear motor with a gear ratio of 150:1
a cam with two high points located opposite each other, mounted on the gear motor output shaft
a proximity switch mounted in the hub assembly opposite the cam. When a high point on the cam is opposite the proximity switch, a signal is output to the CD20 motor control electronics that indicates the sample probe is at the stop and "Hold" position.
the coupling, jam nut, and hub, which allow the CD20 Control and Drive Assembly to be mounted directly to the C-Series sample probe. No brackets or supports are required; however, they are recommended on pipelines with significant vibration.
an explosion-proof housing which encloses the complete assembly. Two ¾-in.-in. NPT holes allow connection of the 230VAC line power and input pulse (for flow-proportional sampling). Two ½-in. breather plugs are installed on opposite sides of the enclosure.
rotation acknowledgement or verification that the motor has rotated at least 180 degrees.

The CD-20, CD-20A, and CD-20SFA actuator and sampler controller are specifically designed to work in conjunction with the True-Cut C-Series sample probe. These controllers offer pulse input (flow proportional) and repeat (time proportional) control for the sample probe. Upon receiving a "start" pulse, the probe rotates to collect and release an isokinetic sample. In a horizontal line installation, the probe halts in the closed position, whereas in a vertical line setup, the probe stops in the open position.

The C21 probe collects one 1.5 cc sample per 360-degree rotation.

The C22 probe collects two 1.5 cc samples per 360-degree rotation.

The CD-20SFA stands out due to its inclusion of a failure alarm relay that notifies users in case of power loss, input signal loss, or motor failure. The relay contact stays open (inactive) while a sample is being taken within the alarm delay period set using the control card potentiometer. Users can adjust the alarm delays within a range of 5 seconds to 6 minutes for added flexibility and control.

The CD-20 Series features an explosion-proof housing that encapsulates the entire assembly. It includes two ¾-inch NPT holes for linking the line power and input pulse, which is used for flow-proportional sampling. Additionally, the enclosure is equipped with a ½-inch breather plug and a ½-inch conduit plug located on opposite ends. To mount the assembly directly to the C-Series sample probe, a coupling, jam nut, and hub are provided. While brackets or supports are not mandatory, they are suggested for installations with substantial piping vibration.

Both CD-20 and CD-20A controller consists of the following:

a motor control assembly (12VDC, 24VDC, 115VAC, or 230VAC)
a DC gear motor with a gear ratio of 150:1
a cam with two high points mounted on the gear motor output shaft
a proximity switch

The CD30A Control and Drive Assembly (Part No. 50132381535) is engineered specifically for use with the True-Cut C-Series sample probes. The assembly is certified by CSA as intrinsically safe for use in hazardous environments (Class I, Div. 1, Group D).

It comprises the following components:

a motor speed control that provides both pulse input (flow-proportional) and repeat (time- proportional) control of the sample probe. When a “start” pulse is received at the CD30A control card input, the probe is rotated 180 degrees to capture and discharge a single 1.5-ml isokinetic sample. a 9VDC gear motor with a gear ratio of 150:1
a cam with two high points located opposite each other, mounted on the gear motor output shaft.
a proximity switch mounted in the hub assembly opposite the cam. When a high point on the cam is opposite the proximity switch, the PROX (“Hold”) LED will be illuminated. This signal indicates the sample probe is at the stop and “hold” position.
a coupling, jam nut, and hub, which allow the CD30A Control and Drive Assembly to be mounted directly to the C-Series sample probe. No brackets or supports are required, but they are advisable on pipelines with some vibrations.
an explosion-proof housing, which encloses the complete assembly. Two ¾-in. NPT holes allow connection of the 115VAC, 50/60 Hz line power and input pulse (for flow proportional sampling). A ½-in. breather plug is installed on one side of the enclosure, and a ½-in. conduit plug is installed on the opposite side of the enclosure.

Clif Mock U-22 Adaptor

By equipping a pipeline with a 2" ball valve and a U-22 union adapter, the CLIF MOCK True Cut C-Series sample probe can be securely installed or removed, even while under pressure, using an A-3 sample probe retriever. In some cases, a pressure equalizing valve (PEV) and/or LA-22 line adapter may be necessary for a successful C-Series probe installation.

The Clif Mock C-Series Probes can easily be also can be used with a selection of accessories to help with the operation of the probe, the insertion of the probe into smaller line sizes.

CLIF MOCK C-Series Sample Probe

The CLIF MOCK True Cut C-Series sample probe is an isokinetic inline sampling probe that operates without the need for air or hydraulics for sample collection. Instead, it is activated by an electrical pulse from a controller, utilizing the existing pipeline pressure to fill the sample chamber with the product. Upon activation, the sample chamber opens to allow the process fluid to pass through it. The rotation of the window facilitates the capture of the sample in its natural form, which is then pushed by the pipeline pressure to a receptacle. By ensuring the homogeneity and thorough mixing of the process fluid before sampling, and employing a sampling method that preserves the linear velocity and flow direction, the customer is guaranteed a truly representative sample.

Having a pipeline correctly equipped with a 2" ball valve and a U-22 union adapter allows the safe installation or removal of the CLIF MOCK True Cut C-Series sample probe, even under pressure, utilizing an A-3 sample probe retriever.
